Join Plastic Free July!

Plastic Free July is an initiative that started in WA in 2011 by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz.  Now it has grown into the Plastic Free Foundation, a not-for-profit charity.

The basis of the campaign is the belief that small changes add up to a big difference, with the vision of seeing a world free of plastic waste.

Millions of people across the globe take part every year and many continuing to reduce their plastic waste beyond just July.

Their website has lots of easy ideas about how to reduce plastic waste for those just getting started through to those who would like to campaign their workplace or council to do more to reduce plastic waste.

Some of the ideas include:

- avoiding takeaway coffee cups - there are so many great reusable coffee cups out now that are much nice to drink from than a takeaway cup.

- buying fruit and vegetables that aren't packaged, using cotton produce bags.

- take your own containers to your butcher or food provider - some even give a discount if you do this.

- where possible, repurpose items or donate them to charity.

- celebrate without balloons and glitter - use paper decorations and natural confetti.
